Course Announcement
Regional Workshop on “From Risk Assessment to Conservation: Safeguarding Archaeological Complexes in the Mekong Subregion”, Vat Phou, Lao PDR
The Lao Ministry of Information and Culture, Department of Museums and Archaeology along with the Getty Conservation Institute, SEAMEO Regional Centre for Archaeology and Fine Arts (SPAFA), and the Lerici Foundation are collaborating to present a workshop titled, From Risk Assessment to Conservation; Safeguarding Archaeological Complexes in the Mekong Subregion. The workshop will be held at the World Heritage site of Vat Phou in Lao PDR 9-22 March 2008.

CollAsia2010 International Course on Traditional Knowledge and Scientific Principles of Conservation concluded in Vientiane, Lao PDR
The CollAsia2010 International Course on Traditional Knowledge and Scientific Principles of Conservation held in Vientiane , Lao PDR was successfully concluded on 14th December 2007 at the Lao National Museum . The Closing Ceremony was attended by Dr.Thongsa Sayavongkhamdy, Director-General of the Department of Heritage, Ministry of Information and Culture, representatives from the Embassy of Thailand and the Embassy of Indonesia in Lao PDR, as well as the course team, participants, and the museum staff.
The 4-week course focused on the principles governing material culture and its behaviour, and on the social significance of heritage. Participants were able to share their knowledge and experiences and to study the scientific principles behind the traditional methods of conservation. For more information visit www.collasia2010.org
Symposium successfully concluded

SPAFA successfully convened an International Symposium on Intercultural Understanding: Changing the Landscape and Building Bridges for Peace, from 28-30 November 2007 in Bangkok . With over 200 delegates from 13 countries, the 3 main themes under discussion were: Inter-cultural Cooperation and Understanding, Religions for Peace, and Cultural Identities and Cultural Rights. Countries represented included Bangladesh , China , India , Indonesia , Israel , Italy , Japan , Malaysia , Myanmar , Philippines , Thailand , Turkey , and Vietnam . The Symposium was held in honour of His Majesty King Bhumibol Aydulyadej on the occasion of his 80 th birthday. Selected papers will be published soon.
