SEAMEO SPAFA held her 37th Governing Board Meeting (GBM) at LaCrista Hotel, Melaka, Malaysia from 19-20 September 2022. The GBM took place in Malaysia thanks to the kind invitation extended by the Department of Museums Malaysia to host SEAMEO SPAFA’s 37th GBM. Melaka was chosen as the venue in recognition of Melaka’s world heritage status since 2008.
The two day meeting allowed for Governing Board Members to meet in person with the last two SEAMEO SPAFA GBMs being held online due to travel restrictions brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic. The meeting was conducted in a hybrid (i.e. physical and online) format to allow for participants who were unable to attend physically to be able to join.
During the meeting, SEAMEO SPAFA presented her previous fiscal year’s work as well as ongoing and future activities whilst obtaining valuable comments from the GB Members, which would help improve and develop SEAMEO SPAFA’s work.
Participants were able to learn about Melaka’s cultural significance through a welcome dinner at the courtyard of the historical “Stadthuys”, a scenic Melaka river cruise as part of the farewell dinner, and a Melaka heritage tour organized on the second day of the meeting which included site visits to Bukit Melaka, Porta de Santiago, the Clock Tower and Jonker Street, to name a few.
SEAMEO SPAFA expresses her heartfelt gratitude to our gracious hosts: Department of Museums Malaysia; Ministry of Tourism, Art and Culture Malaysia; Melaka State Government; and Melaka Museum Corporation (PERZIM).
