Over the last forty years, the number of museums around the world has more than doubled. Seeing the important role that museums contribute in social, education and economic sectors, the Forum brought together high-level international panelists, which included numerous directors of the world’s outstanding museums, to discuss new museum sector trends and public policies, the protection of cultural property and collections, the ethical and technological standards for museums, and how to better engage and benefit communities. The reinforcement of international cooperation in the area of museums and the implementation of the ‘Recommendation on the Protection and Promotion of Museums and Collections’, formally adopted on 17 November 2015, were also discussed.
At this important forum, SEAMEO SPAFA Director gave a presentation titled, “New Museums in Southeast Asia: Continuity and Change” [pictured].
