WORKSHOPS

As part of SPAFACON 2024 activities, SEAMEO SPAFA shall be hosting one-day workshops on 14 June 2024 at the conference venue (Amari Watergate Bangkok), facilitated by experienced professionals/scholars in their respective fields.

ARCHAEOLOGY ETHICS IN SOUTHEAST ASIA WORKSHOP

This workshop aims to foster a deeper understanding of pressing ethical issues in the field of archaeology, such as gender and sex discrimination, accessibility and inclusivity of the discipline, as well as intellectual property rights, and to provide a platform for collaborative discussions on addressing these concerns.

A curated series of online seminars will be organized, each dedicated to specific topics, featuring expert panellists and fostering open discussions to raise awareness and address pressing ethical issues in archaeology. There will be a culminating workshop and case study activity scheduled to take place during SPAFACON 2024.

For the workshop in SPAFACON 2024, a case study activity will take place in the morning session. Selected participants, who are attending all the online lecture sessions and the onsite workshop in SPAFACON 2024, will be divided into teams and present strategic plans for a fictional case study. Details of the case study will be disclosed during the final online seminar session in March. The moderator and invited advisory panel will assess the presentations and select the winning team, which will receive a prize.

The afternoon session will include roundtable dialogues, question-and-answer discussions, and deliberations about future actions. This segment will offer participants the opportunity to engage in meaningful conversations about the workshop's outcomes and their implications for the future.

The workshop fee applies exclusively to individuals who wish to only participate in the in-person workshop. For those interested in joining the entire workshop (online sessions and onsite workshop), here for more details

FEE: 1,000 THB which includes lunch and refreshments. Payment will be collected at the SPAFACON registration desk.

Workshops are open to the public with limited places available.
